Club Sport Cartaginés is a football club from Cartago , Cartago Province , Costa Rica . Cartaginés is one of the oldest and most traditional football clubs in Costa Rica and current cup winner.
history
The club was founded on July 1, 1906 and is one of the seven founding members of the Primera División de Costa Rica .
Especially in the first decades Cartaginés was able to achieve good placements in the highest Costa Rican football league, including the three championship wins in 1923, 1936 and 1940.
In 1994 Cartaginés managed to prevail against the best teams in the region and win the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Since this last success in Cartagos, there has been a steady upward and downward trend in sport, in 2008, for example, Cartaginés was only barely able to escape relegation.
In August 2014, Cartago managed to win the national cup competition again for the first time since 1983 with the 2014 Copa Popular . In 2015 the trophy could be defended.
Stadion
CS Cartaginés plays its home games at the Estadio José Rafael "Fello" Meza Ivancovich, which is located in the center of Cartagos. The stadium is club-owned and has space for 12,500 spectators.
