Liga Deportiva Alajuelense is a football club from the city of Alajuela , Alajuela Province , Costa Rica . Alajuelense is one of the most successful clubs in the country with 29 championship titles.
history
LD Alajuense was founded on June 18, 1919 . In 1921 the club was one of the seven founding clubs of the Primera División . In the first season he was last, in 1928 he won the Costa Rican championship for the first time.
Meanwhile, LD Alajuense has won 28 times and is thus in a close duel with Deportivo Saprissa . Both teams have dominated the championship since 1993.
LD Alajuense has also attracted attention on the international stage. The club has won the CONCACAF Champions Cup twice and the prestigious UNCAF Copa Interclubes three times .

In addition to participating in the first division, LD Alajuelense also takes part in the second division of the Costa Rican division, the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División , under the name "Alajuela Junior" . For Alajuela Junior, mostly U23 players and players who are in advanced training play. Alajuela secured the right to participate in the second division for the 2012/13 season by taking over the franchise of the newcomer Finca Austria Nosara FC for an initial three years, as this club did not have sufficient financial means to survive in the second division.
Since 2018/19 Alajuelense has been participating in the Liga de Ascenso again under the name Once de Abril.
The former women's soccer club UCEM Alajuela has now joined the LD Alajuelense.
Stadion
LD Alajuelense plays its home games at the club's Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto . Opened in 1942, the stadium has a capacity of almost 18,000 spectators and has been named after Alejandro Morera Soto since 1966, who is considered to be the greatest footballer in Costa Rica and who played for FC Barcelona in the 1930s . The stadium is also known as la catedral del fútbol de Costa Rica , the "Cathedral of Costa Rican football".
In addition to the main rival's stadium, the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa , it was also one of the two main venues for international matches for the Costa Rica national team during the new construction of the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica .
