The Copa Inter Clubes UNCAF , or Copa Inter Clubes Centroamericana ( interpreting .: Central American club championship) was one since 1971 been transferred annually from the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) , a subsidiary organization of the CONCACAF , organized football -Vereinswettbewerb for the top teams from the seven countries in Central America . As a rule, the national champions were eligible to participate.
Precursors were the Copa Fraternidad from 1971 to 1984 and the Copa de Grandes de Centroamerica from 1996 to 1998 . From 1999 to 2007 the competition was mainly used to determine the three Central American participants in the CONCACAF Champion's Cup. After the introduction of the CONCACAF Champions League from the 2008/09 season and the associated fixed contingents of starting places for all seven Central American countries, it became obsolete.
The game mode changed several times between round-robin tournaments with a subsequent knockout phase or play-off, pure league mode or, as recently, a pure knockout system.
