Copa Iberoamericana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa Iberoamericana , ( English : Ibero-American Cup ), was a uniquely played intercontinental football club comparison between the winners of the national Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey , and the South American Copa de Oro Nicolás Leoz .

The first and only draw took place in May 1994 between the Spanish cup winner from 1993 Real Madrid and the winner of the South American club competition Copa de Oro from 1993 Boca Juniors in a round trip. Both clubs won their home games; Real Madrid, however, took the overall victory due to one more goal scored. Probably for reasons of timing, this one attempt to establish another intercontinental competition in addition to the Europe-South America Cup (World Cup), which was still being held at the time .
