Small world cup
The Small World Cup (Spanish: Pequeña Copa del Mundo) was played in Venezuela between 1952 and 1957 and, along with the Copa Rio, is considered a forerunner of the World Cup , which itself was replaced by the FIFA Club World Cup in 2005 . Just like the World Cup, the Small World Cup was only limited to European and South American teams. The field of participants consisted of four teams, half of which came from Europe and the other half from South America. The European teams were able to use the Coupe Latinequalify, the qualification mode of the South American team is unknown. However, the intention of the organizers, mostly companies from Venezuela, was to invite the best teams from both continents. After the introduction of the European Cup and due to security problems in Venezuela, the competition was discontinued in 1957. In 1963 the competition was launched again under the name Taça Ciudad de Caracas. However, this was a pure friendship tournament that was only played sporadically. From now on the field of participants varied between three and eight teams. The tournament was held for the last time in 1975. The winner was the GDR national team .
