WAFU Club Cup
The WAFU Club Cup (also English West African Club Championship ; French Coupe de l'UFOA ) was a football club competition in West Africa , which has been played annually until 2011 since 1977 with a 9-year break and by the West African Football Union (WAFU), a Sub-organization of the CAF . It was also known as the General Eyadéma Cup , named after the former President of Togo .
Until 1999, the teams placed second in each of the national leagues of the 16 member countries of the WAFU were eligible to participate. After the revival of the competition in 2009, it is open to the highest ranked teams in the national leagues that did not qualify for one of the African club competitions CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup . The game was played in a pure knockout system with a return leg until the final . Since 1998, following the quarter-finals, a final tournament has been held with the remaining four teams in a host country each to determine the winner.
