The CECAFA Club Cup , ( French : Coupe UNIFFAC des clubs ), is a football club competition in Central and East Africa , which has been held annually since 1974 with one interruption (1990) and is organized by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), a sub-organization the CAF , is organized. Since the competition has been sponsored by Rwandan President Paul Kagame since 2002 , it is also known as the Kagame Inter-Club Cup . In 1967 an unofficial event took place, which was won by Abaluhya FC (later: AFC Leopards) from Kenya against Dar Sunderland (later: Simba SC) from Tanzania in the final 5-0.
In principle, the national champions from Ethiopia , Burundi , Djibouti , Eritrea , Kenya , Rwanda , Zanzibar , Somalia , Sudan , South Sudan , Tanzania and Uganda are eligible to participate , whereby different countries have already provided two or more teams and twice admitted guest teams from the DR Congo were. The tournament is usually played in a country with three groups of three to five teams. The first two in each group and the two best third in the group qualify for the quarter-finals. From this point on, the winner will be played in the knockout system until the final.
