The AFC Women's Club Championship , also AFC Women's Champions League called, is a competition for Asian women's football - club teams , that of the Asian Football Confederation is organized (AFC). It was held for the first time in November 2019 with four teams as a pilot project. The winner was the Japanese club Nippon TV Beleza .
history
The decision to establish a club competition for women's football was made by the AFC Women's Football Committee in April 2018. The first season of the competition took place in 2019 as a pilot project with the four champions from Australia , China , Japan and South Korea . The competition was held in November 2019 in a round-robin tournament with the teams Melbourne Victory , Jiangsu Suning , Nippon TV Beleza and Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels . Group winner was the Japanese club Nippon TV Beleza .
After the first event, the committee decided to continue the pilot project, so initially a maximum of six teams should take part in 2020. The further development envisages eight participants from all AFC member associations for 2021 and 2022 and at least twelve for 2023 and 2024. From 2025, the competition will then include 16 teams. In addition, an AFC Women's Club Competition Ranking will be developed by then as a counterpart to the ranking list for men's football .
