The CONCACAF League is a football competition for club teams that is organized by the responsible continental association CONCACAF and is the second most important competition on the continent after the CONCACAF Champions League . The competition is only comparable to the UEFA Europa League or the Copa Sudamericana to a limited extent, as representatives from Mexico and the USA have not yet participated.
Currently three clubs from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama are eligible to participate. Nicaragua has two representatives and Belize and Canada each have one. The field of participants is completed by three representatives from the Caribbean who qualify via the current Caribbean championship, without the current Caribbean champion, who qualifies directly for the Champions League. Until 2018, only the winner received a starting place for the CONCACAF Champions League in the following year, since 2019 the six best teams have qualified.
mode
The following mode currently applies. Each round, starting with the round of 16 through to the final, is played in the knockout system with home and away legs. In the event of a tie for points and goals , the away goal rule applies . If the number of goals scored away from home is the same, a penalty shoot-out follows immediately after the second leg .
