The 2019 CONCACAF League was the third season of the competition for Central American and Caribbean club teams in football . The tournament began on July 30, 2019 with the preliminary round and ended with the finals on November 6 and 26, 2019. Defending champion CS Herediano from Costa Rica was eliminated in the round of 16.
The four semi-finalists Alianza FC , CD Motagua , CD Olimpia and CD Saprissa as well as the two best losers in the quarter-finals AD San Carlos and CSD Comunicaciones qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2020 .
mode
The mode had changed compared to the two previous seasons. The field of participants in the tournament was increased by six teams and a preliminary round was set up before the round of 16. 22 teams from 11 nations took part in the 2019 CONCACAF League. The competition was carried out in a knockout system . Starting from the preliminary round to the final, each round was played with a return game . Up to and including the semi-finals, the away goals rule was applied in the event of a tie after both games and if this did not determine a winner, there was a penalty shoot-out ; an extension was not played. In the final, the away goals rule was not applied, but - if necessary - an extra time was played.
