Johan Venegas (born November 27, 1988 in Puerto Limón , Costa Rica ) is a Costa Rican soccer player serving as a midfielder . He is currently under contract with Minnesota United .

Career

Club career

Venegas started his professional career at AD Santos de Guápiles in 2009. In 2011 he was loaned to the CD Barrio México for a short time , where he was only used four times.

In the summer of 2012, Venegas left Santos after 40 league games and four league game goals and moved to Puntarenas FC . He stayed there for one season and was very successful with twelve goals in 37 league games. The move to LD Alajuelense followed in summer 2013.

For Alajuelense, Venegas played in 72 league games until August 2015 and scored 17 goals. On August 3, 2015, he switched to the Canadian franchise Montreal Impact . Venegas played his first Major League Soccer game on August 6, 2015, against the New York Red Bulls (final score 1-1).

National team

Venegas is a national player for the Costa Rican national soccer team . He made his first game for the selection of Costa Rica in September 2014, when he participated with the selection at the Central American Cup 2014 and was able to win the competition. Since then he has been an integral part of the selection.
