The Club Olimpia Deportivo is a football club from Tegucigalpa , capital of Honduras . The club was founded in 1912 as a baseball club and has also been involved in football since 1927, which is the sole purpose of Olimpia these days. The club won its first competition as early as 1928 and has since become the country's record champions. Olimpia attracted international attention through its two triumphs in the Concacaf Champions League in 1972 and 1988 - the only Honduran club so far that has been able to succeed here. Because of its white dress, the club is often referred to as los Merengues ("the meringues ") and los Albos ("the whites").

The club's legends include record striker Wilmer Velásquez and naturalized Brazilian Denilson Costa . Maynor Figueroa , Wilson Palacios and David Suazo are among the players who have been able to assert themselves in Europe since 2000. With six and five titles respectively, Carlos Padilla Velásquez and José de la Paz Herrera are the most successful master coaches in the club's history.

Like arch rivals CD Motagua , Olimpia plays its home games in the capital's national stadium, which is often referred to as the Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino after the former President of Honduras . The stadium was opened in 1948 and holds around 35,000 spectators.
