The Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is a football stadium in the Costa Rican municipality of Tibás , Province of San José . It has space for 23,112 spectators and serves as a venue for the Deportivo Saprissa club.

The stadium was built in 1972 and opened on August 27th of that year. In the first game, Deportivo Saprissa and CSD Comunicaciones from Guatemala met for a friendly. In the final score of 1: 1, Peter Sandoval from Comunicaciones scored the first goal in this stadium. The Deportivo Saprissa club has played its home games here since the stadium opened. Deportivo have been champions of Costa Rica twenty-nine times to date , making them the country's record holder.

The club also won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup three times . The national soccer team of Costa Rica used the stadium in the time after the demolition of the old national stadium in 2008 until the reopening of the national stadium in San José in 2011 as a venue for international soccer matches. The greatest successes of this national team were the three-time qualification for a soccer world championship and the six-time win of the UNCAF Nations Cup .

The Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is named after Ricardo Saprissa, a Costa Rican athlete and coach who founded the Club Deportivo Saprissa in 1935. It has a capacity of 23,112 spectators. In addition to football competitions, concerts are also held here. The Black Eyed Peas , Carlos Santana , Shakira , Andrea Bocelli , Bon Jovi , Iron Maiden , Plácido Domingo , Green Day and Metallica have already played at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá .
