The Supercopa de Campeones Intercontinentales ( Spanish also: Recopa Sudamericana , English : Supercup of Intercontinental Champions ) was a South American football club competition that was played only twice (1968/69 and 1969/70). Open to the hitherto fixed South American winner of the German-speaking as were "World Cup" designated Europe-South American Cup . The competition also served as a South American qualifier for the Intercontinental Supercup, which was introduced at the same time .
Potential participants for the first edition in 1968/69 were Peñarol Montevideo (winner of the World Cup 1961, 1966), FC Santos (1962, 1963) and Racing Club (Avellaneda) (1967). For the second edition, the field of participants was expanded to include Estudiantes de La Plata (winner 1968). After that, not least because of the low interest shown by clubs from Europe in the Intercontinental Supercup, another event was not held.
