Maghreb Champions Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maghreb Champions Cup , ( French : Coupe du Maghreb des clubs champions ), was a football club competition in North Africa , which was played only seven times from 1970 to 1976. The respective champions of the former Maghreb countries Algeria , Morocco , Tunisia and Libya as well as the defending champion were eligible to participate . However, Libya only took part in the first event in 1970. With one exception, from the semi-finals onwards, the game was played in a pure knockout system in only one game within a few days at one venue. In 1970/71 only three teams played the winner in a league round with a return leg. This competition is often referred to or viewed as the successor to the North African Football Championship .
