The Melanesian Super Cup was a club-level football competition that was held for the first time in 2014 and brought together the best teams in Melanesian .

history

The tournament arose from the idea of the Melanesia Cup , which was last held in 2000, at that time between the national teams of the respective countries. Former Solomon international player David Firisua helped reintroduce the competition under a new name in 2014. The reason for this was the need for more football matches at a high level for clubs and players. In addition, cultural exchange should also play an important role.

The cup will take place in Vanuatu for the first two years , as there is a particularly great enthusiasm for football. After that, another organizer should be found every year. According to the organizer Firisua, a Polynesian Super Cup was possible if the event was successful .

At the first edition in 2014, instead of the five invited clubs, only two from Vanuatu and the Solomonic master appeared. Nevertheless, the tournament should continue in 2015.

The winner's trophy was a hand-carved Melanesian wooden statue.
