The Melanesia Cup ( English Melanesia Cup ) was a seven-time competition between 1988 and 2000 for the five national football teams of Melanesia . Eligible were Fiji , New Caledonia , Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu .
In 1994, 1998 and 2000 the tournament also served as a qualifier for the Oceania Championships in 1996 , 1998 and 2000 .
In 2002 the tournament was canceled for security reasons.
In July 2020, OFC President Lambert Maltock and the Melanesian Spearhead Group confirmed that the competition would continue under the name MSG Prime Ministers' Cup and that other OFC nations outside Melanesia could also participate. A period for the event was not mentioned.
