Oceania Cup Winner's Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oceania Cup Winner's Cup ( interpreting. : Ozeanienpokal Cup Winners' Cup ) was a football club competition in Oceania , that of the OFC organized first time in 1987 and was held for the only time. As in other continents, the national cup winners were eligible to play. It was the second most important competition alongside the OFC Champions Cup established in the same year . In contrast to this, the disinterest of the clubs, the great distances and the lack of a higher-level competition such as the FIFA Club World Cup meant that the cup competition did not revive after 1987, so that it remained at one stage. However, the IFFHS still speaks of a second draw in 1999.

On March 8, 1987, the Australian "NSL Cup winner" Sydney City FC and the New Zealand winner of the "Chatham Cup" North Shore United from 1986 faced each other in front of 1,000 spectators in the final at the Fuji Film Stadium in Auckland .
