The Plateau United Football Club of Jos (usually known as Plateau United ) is a Nigerian football club from Jos , Plateau state , that plays in the Nigeria Professional Football League . Before 1991 it was known as JIB Strikers FC.
history
Plateau United was founded in 1975 as JIB Strikers FC.
Plateau United won their first major title in 1999 with a 1-0 win in the Nigerian FA Cup final against Iwuanyanwu Nationale after a goal from Donatus Iloka . They lost the final in 1993 and 1998. They made their continental debut in the 2000 African Cup Winners' Cup , but were eliminated in the first round.
They were promoted to the Nigerian Premier League for the 2010/11 season after beating Mighty Jets FC on the final day, but relegated again on the final day of the season. In 2015 it was able to rise again.
The youth (feeder) team was one of four banned clubs in 2013 after investigations into their 79-0 win over Akurba FC . The four clubs were accused of match-fixing in order to advance into the professional league. On July 22, 2013, Plateau Feeders, Akurba FC, Police Machine FC and Bubayaro FC were each suspended for 10 years, with all players and officials involved being suspended for life.
In 2017 the club managed to win the national championship for the first time.
