The Bendel Insurance FC , also known as Insurance of Benin Football Club known is a Nigerian football club based in Benin City . The club was founded as Vipers of Benin .

history

The insured (English: Insurance = insurance) belonged to the founders of the Nigerian Premier League in 1972 . The Nigerian Cup was won in the same year. After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, the team was able to defeat the Mighty Jets 3-2 in the second leg and secure the club's first success. The first championship title was won just one year after the league was founded. This entitles them to participate in the African Cup of Champions Clubs (German African Cup of National Champions ), the most important African club soccer competition. There you made it to the second round. In 1978 the team was back in the final for the cup. Also this time they could prevail and they won 3-0 against Rangers International . Like six years before, the championship was made perfect one year after winning the cup. This 1979 success was the last so far within the league. The last major triumph at national level was the third cup final win against Stationery Stores . In the following year, Bendel made it to the finals, but had to admit defeat to Rangers International. The fans had to wait a long time for further national successes. But they largely failed to materialize. Between 1993 and 1995 Bendel was able to win the West African Club Championship three times in a row. Internationally, the team again attracted attention when they reached the final of the CAF Cup in 1994 . There you had to deal with the Angolan representative Estrela Clube Primeiro de Maio . After a 0-1 defeat in the first leg, the troops won the second game 3-0. In 2006 the team was once again in the final of the national cup. But like in 1980 they had to admit defeat to Dolphins FC this time . After 90 minutes it was 2-2. The defeat was sealed by a 3: 5 on penalties. The big crash followed for the 2007/08 season when you had to go to the second division by placing 20th in the league. In the 2019 season, the club suffered the same fate and as a climber you had to start again in the second-rate National League .
