The Dolphins FC is a Nigerian football club , of the Nigerian Professional Football League plays. The hometown of the Dolphins is Port Harcourt in the Niger Delta. Dolphins FC is the city's second club alongside Sharks FC .
Since the merger with Sharks FC in 2016, the club has been playing under the common name Rivers United .
history
The club was founded in 1988 as Eagle Cement and changed its name in 2001. In 1997 and 2004 the club won the Nigerian championship. In 2005 they played for Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup and reached the final, where they lost to FAR Rabat with 0: 1 and 0: 3.
In 2007 they were relegated from the Nigerian Premier League, but were able to win their division of the Nigeria National League in 2009 and move up again. In 2011 they became champions again.
On February 19, 2016, the merger with city rivals Sharks FC to form the joint club Rivers United FC followed .
