Kano Pillars

The Kano Pillars Football Club is a Nigerian football club of Kano . The club plays its home games in the Sani Abacha Stadium , which has a capacity of 25,000 seats. The club was formed in 1990 from the merger of the amateur clubs WRECA FC , Kano Golden Stars and Bank of the North FC and was a founding member in the first professional play of the Nigerian Premier League in the same year .

The team was relegated for a year in 1994 and, after relegating again in 1999, has been playing first class again since 2002. Kano Pillars became Nigerian champions for the first time in 2007/08 and reached the semi-finals of the African Champions League in 2009 . After the runner-up in 2009/10 behind Enyimba FC , further championship titles followed in 2012, 2013 and 2014. After a home defeat against Julius Berger FC on June 21, 2003, the Kano Pillars remained undefeated in 202 league games on their own pitch until they were defeated by Nasarawa United FC on August 23, 2015 - which is a world record in professional gaming.

On March 6, 2015, the players Muhammad Gambo , Murtala Adamu , Moses Ekpai and the national players Reuben Ogbonnaya and Eneji Otekpa were shot injured in a robbery on the team bus .

The star players in the club's history include Abiodun Baruwa , Sani Kaita , Ahmed "Yaro Yaro" Garba and Ahmed Musa , who also played at European clubs in their careers. Baruwa played for FC Sion and SK Sturm Graz between 1997 and 2001 . Garba was used in numerous games for the Borussia Dortmund reserve team between 2002 and 2004 .
