CAF Champions League 2011
The CAF Champions League 2011 was the 15th edition of this tournament organized by the CAF . It started on January 28, 2011 with the preliminary round. The defending champion is Tout Puissant Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of the Congo , who was disqualified in the round of 16 after breaking the rules. The winner was the Tunisian team Espérance Sportive de Tunis , which defeated the challenger from Morocco Wydad Casablanca , after a 0-0 in the first leg, in the second leg with 1-0.
qualification
In theory, all member associations of the CAF are entitled to send teams. Two starting places are automatically reserved for the 12 best national associations in the CAF five-year ranking. For qualification for the Champions League 2011, the rating for the years 2005 to 2009 applies. Thus, the number of football associations belonging to the CAF means that a maximum of 67 teams could take part in the Champions League.
Two teams from the following countries are entitled to start, in the order of the five-year rating:

Special playoff
Since the defending champion Tout Puissant Mazembe used a player who was not eligible to play in the first round against the Simba SC , the games against Wydad Casablanca were canceled and he will play in a playoff against the Simba SC. The winner of the play-off moves into the group stage.
