Group stage

The group draw took place on December 28, 2018. The 15 winners of the first round and defending champion Espérance Tunis , who came straight into the group stage, were divided into four pots and drawn into four groups of four teams each. The teams were seeded according to their results in the CAF competitions of the last five seasons ( CAF five-year ranking ). The group winners and runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals, while those placed third and fourth were eliminated from the competition.

If two or more teams were tied, the placement was determined by the following criteria:

  1. Number of points in direct comparison
  2. Goal difference in direct comparison
  3. Number of goals in direct comparison
  4. Number of away goals in direct comparison
  5. If, after applying criteria 1 to 4, there are still several teams in the same place in the table, criteria 1 to 4 are reapplied, but only to the matches between the teams in question. Should this also not lead to a definitive placement, criteria 6 to 9 will be applied.
  6. Goal difference from all group matches
  7. Number of goals in all group matches
  8. Number of away goals in all group matches
  9. Drawing lots

1The game was originally canceled in the 83rd minute when the score was 1: 2 due to fan riots. Ismaily SC was then excluded from the competition by the CAF, but allowed again after an objection and the game was rated as a 3-0 victory for the opponent.

annotation

1The return leg was abandoned in the 59th minute when Espérance Tunis was 1-0 after Wydad Casablanca's equalizer was missed due to offside, video evidence was broken due to a malfunction and the Casablanca players stopped playing. After Tunis was declared the winner, the CAF initially arranged a replay on neutral ground. The International Court of Justice revised the decision, whereupon the CAF declared Tunis the winner again.
