The Stade El Menzah (officially: Stade Olympique d'El Menzah , Arabic الملعب الأولمبي بالمنزه) is a multifunctional stadium in the Tunisian capital Tunis and the home of the Tunisian football clubs Espérance and Club Africain .
The stadium was built and opened in 1967 to host the Mediterranean Games and is located in the north of Tunis. It is designed as an oval and consists exclusively of seats (39,458) and box seats (400). The stadium has a tartan track . In addition, sports facilities for various other sports are included and form the sports complex of the same name, which also includes the stadium.
Events
The stadium was in 1994 , when Tunisia shortly for Zaire stepped in, and in 2004 the venue of games of the African Cup . In the first edition hosted by Tunisia there were ten games, including a. the final, a decade later five more games were played at Stade El Menzah.
Other highlights in the history of the stadium were Michael Jackson's appearance on his HIStory World Tour in 1996, as well as that of Mariah Carey , who sang in front of 40,000 spectators in 2006.
In addition, the stadium was the venue for the Tunisian national football team until the construction of the Stadium on November 7th in Radès in 2001 .
