The Nkana FC is a Zambian football club from the city of Kitwe in the north of the country. The club was founded in 1935, making it the oldest football club in Zambia. He plays in the top division, the Zambian Premier League . The club colors are red, which is why the team is nicknamed the Red Devils .

history

The club was founded under the name Rhokana United FC , before renaming itself in 1975 to Nkana Red Devils and in 1991 the current name Nkana FC . The club plays its home games in the 10,000-seat Nkana Stadium .

Nkana FC is twelve-time Zambian champion and six-time cup winner and in 1990 was the first and only soccer club from Zambia to reach the final of the CAF Champions League . In the final, however, the team lost after an even match against JS Kabylie from Algeria 3-5 on penalties.

The so-called "Kitwe Derby" between the Red Devils and local rivals Power Dynamos is considered to be one of the bitterest football derbies on the African continent, comparable to the "Soweto Derby" in South Africa between the Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs . The team was led to the twelfth championship in 2013 after twelve years of abstinence. Master coach Masautso Mwale had a fatal accident in his private car on May 23, 2014 on the way to the CAF Confederation Cup game against Séwé Sport .
