The FIFA Club World Cup 2019 ( English FIFA Club World Cup 2019 ) was the 16th staging of this global football competition for club teams. The competition took place for the first time in Qatar and, like the following event in 2020 at the same location, served as a test for the 2022 World Cup . On June 3, 2019, FIFA Qatar awarded the bid for both tournaments.
mode
There were no changes compared to the competition mode that has been in effect since 2007. The tournament was held with seven participants. In addition to the six winners of the continental championship competitions at club level from Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), the Caribbean, North and Central America (CONCACAF), South America (CONMEBOL), Europe (UEFA) and Oceania (OFC), the champions also withdrew the league of the host country - this year from Qatar - which first had to play a qualifying game against the winner of the OFC Champions League. If a club from Qatar had won the AFC Champions League, the loser of the AFC Champions League final would have qualified instead. The winner of the qualifying match played two participants in the semi-finals with the representatives of Africa, Asia and CONCACAF. The participants from Europe and South America were already set for this and only played two games each. The game was played in a knockout system .
Venues
Initially, the Education City Stadium next to the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium was planned as the venue. The new building was not ready for use in time for the tournament. It has been replaced by the Khalifa International Stadium.
