Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus (born July 24, 1954 in Amadora ) is a Portuguese football coach .
Life
As a teenager, Jorge Jesus was active at CF Estrela Amadora and Sporting Lisbon , then mostly as a midfielder at SC Olhanense , Spain, União Leiria , Vitória Setúbal , SC Farense and CF Estrela Amadora.
He achieved his greatest successes as a coach with a Cup final with Belenenses Lisbon in 2007 - 0-1 against Sporting Lisbon - and in 2008 reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Cup with Sporting Braga - 0-0, 0-1 against Paris Saint -Germain . At the end of the 2008/2009 season he moved to Benfica Lisbon for 700,000 euros and celebrated the Portuguese championship with the record champions in 2010, 2014 and 2015 .
After Jorge Jesus had won the championship twice in a row with Benfica , he signed a three-year contract with city rivals Sporting Lisbon on June 5, 2015 . There had never been a direct coaching change between Benfica and Sporting.
After Sporting Lisbon failed to qualify for the Champions League in May 2018 , the club's training grounds and dressing room were stormed by violent supporters. The player Bas Dost sustained a head injury. Thereupon Jesus - in addition to the players William Carvalho , Gelson Martins , Rui Patrício , Daniel Podence and Bas Dost - terminated his contract at the end of the season, because there were "valid motives" for a unilateral contract termination.
Already in June 2018, Jesus became aware of his new job as a trainer in Saudi Arabia at al-Hilal . Although Jesus had recorded 16 wins and only one defeat in 20 games with the club, he resigned from office on January 30, 2019 after unable to come to an agreement with the club's board on contractual issues.
On June 10, 2019, Jesus was introduced as the new coach of the Brazilian club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . The contract with the club had a term of one year. With the club he won the Copa Libertadores 2019 on November 23, 2019 . Jesus was highly praised for his offensive football and his systematic coaching work on the part of the Brazilian press. A day later, the preliminary decision in favor of Flamengo was made in the 2019 Brazilian championship and Jorge Jesus was able to celebrate this title as well.
