The FIFA Club World Cup 2005 ( Engl. : FIFA Club World Championship 2005 ) was after the failed attempt in 2001, after five years of interruption, the second edition of this international football competition for club teams and took place in Japan from 11 to 18 December.

The FIFA Executive Committee decided on the 2005 Club World Cup on March 8, 2002, and the world governing body confirmed this decision a year later. The Club World Cup is endowed with a total of 15 million US dollars in prize money. In addition, all costs for the teams and the delegations of the confederations are borne by FIFA.

Tickets cost between 3,000 Japanese yen (about € 21) for a quarter-final game in category 4 and 30,000 Japanese yen (about 209 €) in the best category for the final along with the game for third place.

mode

Compared to the first edition of 2000, there were changes in the mode of the event due to a reduction in the number of participants. From now on, the tournament was held in December each year with the winners of the six continental championship competitions at club level from Asia , Africa , the CONCACAF zone , South America , Europe and Oceania . Japan was chosen as the venue for the first draws. The tournament was played in a knockout system . A total of seven games took place in eight days. The teams from Europe and South America were seeded for the semi-finals and only played two games each. The other four teams determined the other two participants for the semi-finals in two quarter-finals.
