Florent Sinama-Pongolle (born October 20, 1984 in Saint-Pierre on Réunion ) is a French football player .

Career

The Frenchman, who was born on the island of Réunion , began his career at JS Saint-Pierre , from where he moved to Le Havre AC on the French mainland as a youth and then to Liverpool FC in 2003 . The striker wore the Blackburn Rovers dress on loan from January 2006 . After his return it was immediately awarded again, this time to the Spanish promoted Recreativo Huelva . In summer 2008 he moved to Atlético Madrid . There he was nicknamed "M'bele" by his teammates.

Sinama-Pongolle was voted the best player of the tournament at the U-17 World Cup in 2001 and was also the top scorer with nine goals. He has played 28 times for French national teams so far, starting from the youth. On October 14, 2008, he made his first brief appearance in the senior national team in the friendly against Tunisia .

At the beginning of the winter transfer period 2009/2010, the Frenchman moved to the Portuguese first division club Sporting Lisbon for 6.5 million euros . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he was loaned to the Spanish club Real Saragossa for a year . After a total of 24 league appearances and four goals, he returned to Lisbon to be awarded to the French club AS Saint-Étienne for the 2011/12 season .

After a multi-year odyssey over three continents, he returned to his first club, JS Saint-Pierre, at the end of his playing days in Réunion. In mid-2019, he ended his career as an active soccer player
