The FA Cup is a national Thai soccer competition . The cup competition was held annually from 1980 to 2001 with the exception of the years 1982-1983 and 1986-1992. The FC Bangkok Bank won the first two editions of the competition. The record holder is Buriram United with four titles . After 8 years of abstinence, the competition was resumed by the Football Association of Thailand in 2009 . The start date was June 27, 2009. All clubs in the first three leagues, as well as teams and clubs from the leagues below, should take part. University and school teams are also allowed to participate. The winner of the final is allowed to participate in the AFC Cup as a representative of Thailand .
