Guam FA Cup
The Guam Football Association Cup (short: Guam FA Cup or GFA Cup ) is the cup competition of the US non-incorporated Guam Territory and, along with the Guam League, is one of the two largest football competitions in the territory. The tournament, in which 32 teams are currently (as of GFA Cup 2017), was held for the first time in 2008. The most successful team in this competition are the Quality Distributors and Guam Shipyard with six finals, four of them wins.
history
The first Guam FA Cup was held in 2008 under the sponsor name Shirley's GFA Cup ; The sponsor was Shirley's Restaurant and Shirley's Coffee Shop, which has existed since 1983, at four locations on Guam. The first final was won 1-0 over the IT&E Crushers by the Quality Distributors , who were the reigning champions at the time . In the following years the team developed into one of the most successful in the entire territory. The team was represented in every cup final up to 2013, with the team winning a total of four cups and only slightly defeated twice. At the same time, Guam Shipyard developed into an equal opponent, with the team defeating the Quality Distributors in the finals in 2010 and 2012 after a winless final participation in 2009. The third success followed in 2015 and a year later they were again in the final, but again without a win. It was only in the last few years that another team, Rovers FC , was able to establish itself in the Guamian soccer cup. The team won the competition in 2014 and 2016. The sponsor names of the cup have changed almost annually since the events began in 2008. The Shirley's GFA Cup in 2008 was followed by the Cars Plus GFA Cup in 2009 and 2010 or the Beck's GFA Cup in 2011. In 2016, the Bank of Guam was responsible for the sponsorship, which is why the tournament was called the Bank of Guam GFA Cup .
