Air Force United is a soccer club from the Thai capital Bangkok . Air Force United is a military sports club of the Thai Armed Forces . He plays in the Thai League 2 and is the reigning record champion with 13 Thai championships. It is also one of the most successful clubs in the country. The club was called Royal Thai Air Force FC until 2010.

Club history

The association is one of the oldest associations in Thailand, founded in 1937 . The club had its first glorious phase in the 50s and 60s. From 1952 to 1967 he was able to win 10 of his 13 championships. The Air Force won 7 championships in a row. From 1957 to 1962. Apart from two Queen's Cup titles won in the 1970s, the club hardly made a name for itself with big titles. 1979 played Piyapong Piew-on for the first time for the club. To this day, the history of the association is closely linked to its name. later he became not only one of the heroes of the club's history, but also of Thai football. 1982 with the Queen's Cup and winning the 11th championship. In the 1990s and the return of Piyapong, old successes could be built on for the first time. In 1995, 1996 and 2001 the Thai FA Cup was won. In 1996 they were a founding member of the new Thai Premier League and finished the season in 7th place. Piyapong Piew-on ended his active career after this season and became the coach of his club. In his first year of responsibility, he was able to win the championship. It was the first after 1987 for the club and a total of 10. The runner-up in 1998 was followed by the last championship title in the history of the club. Another runner-up in 2000 was followed by relegation to the second division of Thailand at the end of the 2003/04 season . Since the relegation one could not get promoted again, with a third place in the 2007 season the promotion was only just missed. In 2008, however, it was only enough to achieve a disappointing 10th place. In addition, the arrangement of long-time coach Piyapong ended. He was in office for a total of eleven years.

Over the years the club has participated in the competitions of the Asian Association. The club achieved its best result in the 1989 season, the Cup Winners' Cup competition. Although they reached the semi-finals, they withdrew from the tournament. Until 2013 they played in the Thai Premier League Division 1 . At the end of the season they became champions and rose to the Thai Premier League . Here you could not hold the class and after a year of first class, relegated back to Division 1 . In the second division you had nothing to do with relegation for the next two years. In 2017 they were runner- up in Division 1 and were promoted back to the Thai League . In 2018 you were bottom of the table and you had to go back to the second division.

Stadion

The club played its home games at Thupatemi Stadium , Khu Khot, Lam Luk Ka , Pathum Thani . The stadium is a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 25,000 spectators. The facility is owned by the Royal Thai Air Force . From 2007 to 2011 they also played in the Thupatemee Stadium. In 2012 they played in the 3,000-seat North Bangkok University Stadium.
