Kor Royal Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kor Royal Cup (officially Thai ฟุตบอล ถ้วย พระราชทาน , RTGS Futbon Thuai Phraratchathan , "royally awarded soccer cup"; short ถ้วย ก Thuai Ko ; 'ก' (kor) is the first letter of the Thai alphabet , thus corresponds to "A-Pokal") was the trophy of the highest Thai football league. Until 1963 it was called Yai Cup ( ถ้วย ใหญ่ Thuai Yai , translated "big cup"). It was established by the Football Association of Thailand and played for the first time in 1906. The first winner of the cup was the Department of Performing Arts.

In 1996 the newly formed Thailand Premier League replaced the Kor Royal Cup. The FAT continued from then on Kor Royal Cup as Super Cup the Thailand Premier League. The champions play against the runner-up of the past season for the cup.

In addition to the "big" or "A-Cup" there is another, royally awarded trophy, the Khǒr Royal Cup ( Thai ถ้วย พระราชทาน ข , RTGS Thuai Phraratchathan Kho ; 'ข' (khǒr) is the second letter of the Thai alphabet, thus corresponds to a "B-Cup"), formerly Thuai Noi ( ถ้วย น้อย , "small cup"). This is played by the clubs of the third division.
