The Port FC (Thai: การ ท่าเรือ) is a professional football club from the Thai district Khlong Toei , in the capital Bangkok . Formerly known as Thai Port FC, the club currently plays in the Thai League , the top division in Thailand. The club is owned by the Port Authority of Thailand and Muang Thai Insurance .
Club history
FC Port Authority of Thailand
The club was founded in 1967 as FC Port Authority and is one of the most successful clubs in the country. The first successes were achieved in the first year of foundation. The Port Authority was able to celebrate its first championship title in 1968, which marked the beginning of the most successful era in the club's history. The first title was followed by five more championships by 1979. The championship in these years was mostly decided between Taru , as the club is also called, and the clubs FC Raj-Pracha and FC Raj-Vithi . In addition to the championship titles, there were successes in the Queen's Cup . The club managed to win the cup from 1977 to 1980 four times in a row. Even though the titles in 1977 and 1979 were shared with the respective finalists.
After the last success in 1980, winning the Queen's Cup, a long dry spell followed and it was not until 1985 that the club won its next title. In 1985 the Port Authority celebrated its 7th championship title. In the final of the championship they met FC Bangkok Bank . After 20 minutes the team was 1-0 down. Only in the 90th minute did Ronnachai Sayomchai equalize. In the subsequent penalty shootout, they prevailed 4: 3. A year earlier, you were inferior to the same opponent in the semi-finals for the championship.
In 1987 he won the Queen's Cup for the fifth time. After that it was again quiet around the club, and it took another five years until the next and so far last championship, in 1990. Another triumph in the Queen's Cup in 1993 brought the club the last great success to this day. One of the great players of the club of that era was Attaphol Buspakom . He played for the club from 1985 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1994. In total, he completed 274 games for the club, scoring 55 goals. To this day he is one of the greatest players in the club's history.
The club, under its previous name, FC Port Authority, was a member of the Thai Premier League's founding season in 1996. Since then, the club has been a member of the elite league without interruption. The best result since the introduction of the new league was the runner-up in 1999. In the following years, the Taru was able to regularly place in the top five. In the last two seasons, however, the club narrowly escaped relegation. On the last day of the 2007 season , they secured their stay in the league only on the last day of play with a 1-0 win over FC Krung Thai Bank . Also in 2008 they only secured relegation on the last match day. They lost 1: 3 against FC TOT . So you had to rely on the result from the game between FC Chonburi and FC Bangkok Bank . Bangkok Bank lost the game 2-1 and had to relegate instead of the Port Authority.
FC Thai Port
For the 2009 season the club was renamed to Thai Port Football Club Company Limited. This happened because of the new requirements on the part of the Thailand Premier League and the AFC , which stipulate that clubs act as companies and must also be registered as such. With Sasom Pobpraserd a new coach has also been signed. Under him, things went much better for the team than in the two years before. At the beginning of the season, Pipat Thonkanya was signed by the champions FC PEA . The signing of Piptas turned out to be a stroke of luck for the club. Thai Port finished the season in 6th place. In addition, they won the Thai Association Cup for the first time . In the final, BEC-Tero Sasana was defeated on penalties. Pipat Thonkanya converted the decisive penalty. At the subsequent banquet, which fans of the club were also allowed to attend, Pipat announced his departure. Winning the cup entitles the club to participate in the AFC Cup 2010 . 3 new strikers were signed for the new season. With Sompong Soleb and Sarayoot Chaikamdee there were two players who had already played for the club before. With Issarapong Lilakorn, FC Khonkaen signed a young striker .
On February 20, 2010, FC Thai Port faced champions Muang Thong United in the Supercup . After the 2: 0 by Muang Thong United, the Thai POrt fans rioted. It had never existed in this form before. Rockets were initially fired onto the field and shortly afterwards there were attacks on fans of Muang Thong. The game was canceled when the score was 2-0 and the master declared the winner. The club was suspended for 3 games by the association, and coach Sasom Pobpraserd was banned from the bench for 3 games. A fine of 131,000 baht was added for the club.
In the 2012 season, the club rose as table sixteenth in the 2nd Thai league.
In the group stage of the AFC Cup, the club from Klong Toei meet SHB Đà Nẵng , Geylang United and Tai Po FC . After 5 match days you secured a place in the round of 16 with second place in the group.
Stadion
Since the 2009 season, the club has been playing at the PAT Stadium in the Khlong Toei district of the capital Bangkok . The district is located in the southeast of the city , near the well-known Sukhumvit Road . Unlike most Thai League stadiums , and Thai football in general, the stadium does not have a tartan track . So it is a pure football stadium . The stadium is owned by the Port Authority of Thailand .
