Thailand Premier League 2008

The Thai Premier League 2009 is a competition of Thai football that was held within the Thai Premier League ( Thai : ไทย แลนด์ พรีเมียร์ ลีก , short: TPL , also Thai League , Thai : ไทย ลีก ) in the 2009 season.

The 2009 season was played with 16 teams. The first game day took place on March 7, 2009. The champions qualify for the AFC Champions League play-offs and the cup winners for the AFC Cup . A National Association Cup has been held for the first time since 2001. The last three places in the league mean relegation to the Thailand Division 1 League . The following teams were promoted from the Thailand Division 1 League: FC Sriracha , Muang Thong United , FC Rajnavy Rayong . Muang Thong was traded as a newcomer, before the season as a championship candidate. By winning the championship in 2009, he was able to confirm this. The club won the 3rd league in 2007 and the 2nd league in 2008.

Changes for the 2009 season

Even before the Premier League started in 2009, there were some changes for this season. In order not to run the risk of losing more starting places for the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup , the Thai Football Association had to implement new and stricter guidelines. These apply to both the league and the clubs and are based on the AFC guidelines .

The following guidelines have been and are to be implemented for leagues and clubs:

  • The league must be transferred to a society and run by professional staff.
  • Every association must be a registered company or company .
  • Every club must have at least one youth team.
  • Every club is obliged to report the exact number of spectators and revenues to the league.
  • The stadiums in which the clubs play must meet the AFC standards for games in the Champions League and the AFC Cup.
  • The coach of the participating teams must have an AFC license
  • The association must submit a balance sheet with a profit and loss account, checked by an external auditor.

New names

Due to the registration as a company, there were some name changes in the course of this.

Port Authority of Thailand → FC Thai Port
Bangkok University FC → Bangkok United FC
Thailand Tobacco Monopoly → TTM Samut Sakhon FC

Since the league's new rules stipulate that every club must be a registered company or company , the three-time champions FC Krung Thai Bank was dissolved. The reason for this lies in the legal system according to which banks are not allowed to set up or run such companies. The club's license was taken over by FC Bangkok Glass . This was founded in 2006 and was runner-up in the 4th division in 2007 and 2008. He took over the entire team of Krung Thai Bank, but not his history. The license for the first division was also bought from FC Coke-Bangpra . The newly founded club Pattaya United took over the club's license.
