The FC Sriracha is a Thai football club from Sri Racha in Chonburi province . The club plays in the Thai Premier League , the highest league in the country. The club plays its home games in the Suzuki Stadium.

Club history

The Blue Marlins , as the club is also called, is still a very young club, which was founded in 2005. After a 6th place in 2007 in the 2nd division, the club surprisingly managed to move up to the first division. On the 28th matchday, the club was able to make the promotion to the Thailand Premier League with a 4-2 win over FC Phitsanulok . The Argentine striker Raúl González Gastón played a major role in the team's success . He scored nine goals in the season and scored the most goals for the team. With the rise of Sriracha, three clubs from Chonburi Province were in the top division for the first time in 2009. In addition to FC Sriracha, these were FC Chonburi and Pattaya United . In the game of the 2009 season between Pattaya United and FC Sriracha, the hosts used an ineligible player. The end result of the game remained. The association only punished the Pattaya United coach. Since direct comparison counts in Thailand, the Blue Marlins were relegated at the end of the season. However, the direct resurgence as champions of the Thai Premier League Division 1 succeeded .

Shortly before the start of the 2011 season, the club signed a sponsorship deal with Suzuki worth ten million baht. In the course of this, the stadium was renamed Suzuki Stadium, and the name of the sponsor found its way into the club name, but not in the club crest.

Fans

FC Sriracha only has a small fan base, which is partly due to the fact that Si Racha is more of a small town. On the other hand, there are two other clubs in the Thai Premier League, Chonburi FC and Pattaya United, which also come from the Chonburi province. While there is a rather friendly relationship with Chonburi FC - Sriracha is very often supported by fans of Chonburi FC at home games - there are certain resentments against Pattaya United. At the end of 2008, the friendly club FC Coke-Bangpra was bought up and transferred to Pattaya.

Until 2010, the club's home games were held at the Princess Sirindhorn Stadium . The stadium holds around 5000 spectators. It is not far from the center of the city. The stadium is not approved by the Asian Football Association ( AFC) for international competitions such as the AFC Cup or the AFC Champions League . Unlike most first and second division stadiums in Thailand, it is floodlit . Like almost every stadium in Thailand, it has a tartan track . Since 2010, the team has been playing in a newly built stadium with space for 12,000 spectators.
