The Thailand Premier Football League played with 16 teams in the 2008 season. The season ran from February 18, 2008 to October 11, 2008. The champions qualify for the AFC Champions League play-offs and the 2nd for the AFC Cup . The last three places mean relegation to the Thailand Division 1 League .

The big surprises of the season were the newcomers, who all but the FC Customs Department were able to keep the league. The 12-time champions Bangkok Bank, however, rose to the end of the season for the first time since the TPL was in the 2nd division.
Chonburi FC failed to defend their title from last year and ended up only in second place. Provincial Electricity became champions for the first time in the club's history . BEC Tero Sasana was only third in the table for the third time in a row.

Season notes
- Due to qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup, the Thailand Premier League took a break from the season from May 3, 2008 to June 28, 2008.
- In a friendly on May 17, 2008, a Thailand Premier League selection won against Manchester City .
- The AFC announced that the champions of the Thailand Premier League can only qualify for the AFC Champions League via play-offs.
- National coach Charnwit Polcheewin announced his resignation on June 16, 2008.
- On July 8th, 2008 the FAT announced that Peter Reid will be the new national coach of Thailand.
- In June it was announced that BEC Tero Sasana striker Teerathep Winothai will join Lierse SK at the end of the season .
- 2007 season goalscorer Ney Fabiano de Oliveira joined Melbourne Victory in Australia during the break in June 2008 .
- Kraison Panjaroen moved from FC Bangkok University to FC Chonburi during the season break .
- In August, FC Chula-Sinthana changed its club name to FC Chula United.
- On August 27, the draw for the 2008 ASEAN soccer championship took place. Thailand got Vietnam, Malaysia and a qualifier drawn.
- On September 4th it was announced that the main shirt color of the Thai national soccer team would be yellow. The supplier was also switched from Grand Sport to Nike .
Continental competitions
Both FC Chonburi and Krung Thai Bank are close to the AFC Champions League . However, did not get past the group stage. The highlight was certainly the 3-1 of Chonburi against Melbourne Victory and a 1-1 against Gamba Osaka in Japan.
