The Thai Premier League was the 15th season of the highest Thai football league since its inception in 1996.

The clubs played a double round tournament , which resulted in a total of 34 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Number of points scored in direct comparison
- Goal difference in direct comparison
- Number of goals in direct comparison
- Goal difference from all games
- Number of goals in all games
At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2012 . The runner-up started in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. The three clubs with the fewest points were relegated to the second-rate Thai Premier League Division 1 .
