The Khon Kaen FC (Thai: สโมสร ฟุตบอล จังหวัด ขอนแก่น) is a Thai football club from Khon Kaen in northeast Thailand , the so-called Isan . He plays in the Thai League 2 .
The club was founded for the 2005 season. The club took part in the Thailand Provincial League in 2006 and finished in 11th place. For the 2007 season, the club moved from the Provincial League to the Thailand Division 1 League , the officially recognized soccer league of Thailand. The club achieved a respectable success with a place in Group A. The good placement could not be confirmed with the 8th place in the 2008 season. In 2009, however, the club is preparing to be the first club to move up from the Isan to the Thai Premier League . The club succeeded in this a year later when they were runner-up and promoted to the Thai Premier League. Here, after only one year, when they turned 18, the club went back to Division 1. After three years in the second division, when you were seventeenth in Division 1, you rose to the third division, Division 2. In 2015 and 2016 they played in the North / East region. In 2017 they played in the Thai League 3 - Upper Region . Here the club became champion and rose again to the second division, the Thai League 2 . In the 2018 season they reached an excellent fourth place in the table.
The club plays its home games at the 7,000-seat Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization Stadium (Thai: สนาม อบ จ. ขอนแก่น) in Khon Kaen . The multi-purpose stadium is owned by the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative .
The club has both a women's soccer team and a women's futsal team. The football department was able to win the runner-up in 2008, in the first season of the Thai Women's Premier League. The women in futsal became champions of the Thailand Futsal League in 2007 and 2008 .
Logo history
At the beginning of the 2009 season, the club changed its club logo and added a dinosaur . For one, the club's nickname is T-Rex . On the other hand, the logo was also renewed for technical marketing reasons. The province of Khon Kaen is known for its finds from the time of the dinosaurs. Parts of the Phuwiangosaurus and the Siamosaurus were found here .
