Thailand Premier League 2006

The 2006 season of the Thailand Premier League was played for the first time with twelve teams. For the 2005 season there were still ten teams participating in the game. So there were four promoted teams for the 2006 season. Two teams came from the Thailand Division 1 League , which belongs to the FAT and two other teams came from the Thailand Provincial League , which belongs to the SAT . These individual reform steps were and are necessary in order to gradually create more professional structures in Thailand. In 2006 the Premier League also took place for the first time under its new official name, Thailand Premier League .

For the first time in its history, FC Bangkok University became champions in 2006 .

Kor Royal Cup

The Kor Royal Cup was held at the end of the season as a Supercup between the master and runner-up. In 2006 the cup was played between FC Osotspa M-150 and the champions FC Bangkok University . In the end, the runner-up retained the upper hand and won 2-1.

Queen's Cup

Second division FC Royal Thai Navy caused a surprise when they won the 32nd edition of the Queen's Cup . In the final they were able to defeat the first division club FC Krung Thai Bank 1-0.

Continental competitions

Champion FC Thailand Tobacco Monopoly and runner-up Provincial Electricity Authority qualified for the AFC Champions League . However, they were excluded from the competition because both clubs reported their roster too late. However, there were also rumors that both clubs could not have participated in the competition for cost reasons.

The Chonburi reached at its first participation the final of the Singapore Cup , where they lost 2: 3 after extra time against Tampines Rovers . The Provincial Electricity Authority FC also took part in the Singapore Cup, but were eliminated in the first round against Woodlands Wellington .
