Thai Premier League 2016

The 2017 Thai League , also known as the Toyota Thai League , was the 21st season of the highest Thai soccer league since it was founded in 1996. The season began on February 11th and ended on November 18th, 2017. The defending champions were Muangthong United .

mode

The clubs played a double round tournament , which resulted in a total of 34 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Number of points scored in direct comparison
  3. Goal difference in direct comparison
  4. Number of goals in direct comparison
  5. Goal difference from all games
  6. Number of goals in all games

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2018 . The runner-up starts in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. In addition, the winner of the Thai FA Cup took part in the second qualifying round. The three clubs with the fewest points were relegated to the second-rate Thai League 2 .

Teams

Thai Honda Ladkrabang returned to the Thai League as champions of the Thai Division 1 League in 2016 after a nine-year absence . The second promoted, Ubon UMT United , made it to the highest Thai league for the first time in its club history. The third promoted team, Port FC , spent their last year in the Thai Division 1 League after being relegated in 2015.

The three promoted teams replaced the last three clubs in the 2016 season , Army United , Chainat Hornbill FC and BBCU FC . The BBCU FC had to return to the Thai League 2 after just one year in the Thai League. For Army United and Chainat Hornbill FC, relegation meant the end of their seven- and five-year membership in the Thai upper house.
