Diogo Luis Santo (born May 26, 1987 in São Paulo ), called Diogo , is a Brazilian football player on the position of a striker . Diogo has long been considered one of the greatest talents in Brazil by many sports magazines .

Portuguesa

In the 2007 season, Diogo made a significant contribution to the rise of Portugal to the first division of Brazil with 18 goals in 28 games . The coach of the Brazilian U20 national team, Nelson Rodriguez, became aware of him through his goals and performances and appointed him to his team. Diogo also confirmed his form in the 2008 season. He scored six goals in 13 games. For this reason, the Brazilian national coach Carlos Dunga nominated him for the Olympic soccer tournament in Beijing in 2008 . Due to injury, however, he had to cancel participation in the tournament. On the 17th day of the 2008 season, Diogo played his last game for Portuguesa .

Olympiacos Piraeus

Olympiakos negotiated with Portuguesa for almost two months before Diogo finally moved to the Greeks on August 17, 2008 for a € 9,000,000 transfer fee. His annual salary was 1.5 million euros. The club acquired 70% of the transfer rights. The remaining 30% stayed with his old club, Portuguesa.

Already at Athens airport Diogo promised to score goals against eternal rival Panathinaikos. He was quickly compared to the legend Giovanni , who played for Olympiakos from 1999 to 2005. With very good performances in the Greek Super League as well as in the UEFA Cup in the games against Benfica Lisbon or Hertha BSC , he attracted international top clubs such as Chelsea , Inter Milan , AC Milan and Liverpool FC . Diogo's fixed transfer fee was 40 million euros. In the further course, Diogo could not confirm his good performance. He was loaned to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro in the 2010/11 season and to FC Santos in the following season. The Brazilian finally left the Greek club for Brazil in 2013 after failing to convince even after his return. He returned to his old club, Portuguesa.
