The 2017 I-League was the tenth season of the highest Indian football league since it was founded in 2007. The season began on January 7th and ended on April 30th, 2017. The defending champions were Bengaluru FC .
mode
The clubs played a double round tournament , which resulted in a total of 18 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Number of points scored in direct comparison
- Goal difference in direct comparison
- Number of goals in direct comparison
- Goal difference from all games
- Number of goals in all games
At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2018 AFC Champions League . In addition, the winner of the Federation Cup took part in the second qualifying round of the AFC Cup 2018 . The club with the fewest points was relegated to the second-rate I-League 2nd Division .
Attendees
The Minerva Punjab FC managed second in the final round of the I-League 2nd Division in 2016 for the first time in their history the rise in the I-League. The actual master, the Dempo SC , renounced the promotion. The Salgaocar SC and the Sporting Clube de Goa also withdrew from the league.
As a substitute of sporting relegated remained of last season , the Aizawl FC in the I-League, while Churchill Brothers SC , was taken after his demotion in 2014, back in the league. In order to increase the league strength back to ten participants, Chennai City FC was also allowed direct entry into the I-League.
