Aizawl ( English ; Hindi : आइज़ोल , Āizol ; Bengali : আইজল , Āijal , Aijal or Aijol ) is the capital of the Indian state of Mizoram . It is the administrative seat of the district of the same name , is located at an altitude of 1,100 meters on a ridge and has a population of around 290,000 (2011 census).

Aizawl is a trading center for the tribal people of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Aizawl has an airport and is accessible from Kolkata and Imphal . Aizawl is home to the Mizoram State Museum, which has a collection about the Mizo culture in the state.
