↑ AFC Champions League 2017
|
The AFC Cup 2017 was the 14th season of the second most important Asian competition for club teams in football after the Champions League since it was founded in the 2004 season . 43 clubs from 25 AFC national associations took part in the competition this season .
In November 2016, the AFC announced a major mode change, according to which the teams will now be divided into five regions instead of the previous two. The regions correspond to the five regional associations of the AFC (from the WAFF in the west to the EAFF in the east).
The season began with the first qualifying round on January 30th and ended with the final at Hisor Central Stadium in the Tajik city of Hissor on November 4th, 2017. There the defending champions al-Quwa al-Jawiya defeated FC Istiklol from Tajikistan 1-0 and was able to win his second title in a row. The top scorer was the North Korean Kim Yu-song on April 25 SC with 9 goals. The Tajik Manuchekhr Dzhalilov was named the best player in the competition .
Qualifying round in August
The qualifying round was drawn on June 17, 2016 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The nine teams were drawn into three groups with three participants each. Everyone played against each other only once. The best team in each of the three groups was originally supposed to qualify for the play-off round.
However, due to the comprehensive mode change decided in November 2016, the outcome of the qualifying round has become null and void. The teams from Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia still play in the next round, while Bangladesh, Bhutan and Cambodia other teams as well as Guam, Macau, Nepal and Taiwan do not send any teams to the next round.
Group 1
All games took place in the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek ( Kyrgyzstan ).

34 clubs took part in the group stage. 29 of these teams qualified directly, plus 5 (one each from the west, central and south regions and two from the south-east region) from the play-off round. The group draw took place on December 13, 2016 in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur . The teams were drawn into nine groups of four participants each. After the draw, several clubs withdrew, so that only three teams played in two groups. The table on the right shows the distribution of the groups in the respective regions.
The group winners and the best runner-up in groups A to C and groups F to H qualified for the regional semi-finals, while the group winners of groups D, E and I qualified for the interregional semi-finals. All other teams were eliminated from the competition. If two or more teams were tied, the placement was determined by the following criteria:
- Number of points in direct comparison
- Goal difference in direct comparison
- Number of goals in direct comparison
- Number of away goals in direct comparison
- If, after applying criteria 1 to 4, several teams still occupied the same place in the table, criteria 1 to 4 were reapplied, but only to the matches between the teams in question. Should this also not lead to a definitive placement, criteria 6 to 10 were applied.
- Goal difference from all group matches
- Number of goals in all group matches
- If it was only about two teams and these two are on the field, there would be a penalty shoot-out between them .
- Lower number of points through yellow and red cards (yellow card 1 point, yellow-red and red card 3 points, yellow card followed by a direct red card 4 points)
- Higher rank of the football association in the AFC four-year ranking

Tables of the runners-up
In addition to the nine group winners, the two best group thirds from the west and south-east regions also qualified for the final round. Since only three teams played in Group H, the results against the fourth group in the other two groups were not taken into account. In the event of a tie between two or all teams, the placement was determined by the following criteria:
- Goal difference from all group matches
- Number of goals in all group matches

Remarks
1As a result of a decision by
FIFA since 2013 to allow international matches to be held in Iraq on a trial basis, the
AFC set the

Erbil as the venue for the first leg on May 10, 2017 .
2The return match should have been played in Franso Hariri Stadium, but was according to the wishes of the home team, the al-Zawraa SC, after
Doha to
Grand Hamad Stadium moved.
