In addition, there are the four losers from the play-offs of the AFC Champions League 2011 and the two finalists of the AFC Cup 2010 who did not meet the criteria for participation in the AFC Champions League and automatically received a place for the AFC Cup 2011.

Group stage

In the group stage, 32 teams play in eight groups, each with four teams, in league mode (home and away leg) according to the three-point rule. The teams are divided according to geographical considerations: teams from West and Central Asia play in groups A to E, teams from East and Southeast Asia play in groups F to H. The first two in the group qualify for the final round of the last 16.

Final round

The round of 16 is drawn and decided in just one game. From the quarter-finals onwards, the tournament winner will be played in a knockout system with a two-legged game, whereby the away goals rule applies. If there is no winner in the second leg and / or final after regular playing time and overtime, the winner will be determined in a penalty shoot-out.

The final will be played in just one game. The venue is the home stadium of one of the two finalists.
