Persipura Jayapura is an Indonesian football club based in Jayapura in the Western New Guinea region .
history
The club was founded in 1950. In 1976 Jayapura won the Indonesian championship for the first time, which was still an amateur competition at the time. In 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2013 further titles followed, but this time in the Indonesia Super League , the Indonesian professional league founded in 1994 . The club's home stadium is the Mandala Stadium , which has a seating capacity of 15,000. Jayapura's players are mainly of Melanesian origin due to the city's location in the Indonesian part of New Guinea .
