Nejmeh Club ( Arabic نادي النجمة الرياضي, DMG Nādī an-Naǧma ar-riyāḍī ) is a football club from Beirut in Lebanon . The club plays in the Lebanese Premier League , the highest league in the country. The club plays its home games at the Camille Chamoun Stadium .
Club history
The association was founded in 1945. On April 28, 1947, the association received its official license. In 1951 the club rose to the first division. The club had to wait until the 1970s before the big breakthrough came. With the FA Cup victory in 1971, al Nejmeh won his first major title, which was followed by the first championship in 1973. To date, a total of eight championships - including two unofficial ones - and six FA Cups have been won. 1974 Pelé played an unofficial friendly match in the dress of al Nejmeh SC.
Due to the civil war in Lebanon, there was no regular game operation from 1975 to 1987. After resuming the league, al-Ansar set a world record when he won twelve championships in a row from 1988 to 1999. Only al Nejmeh interrupted the run of al-Ansar in 2000 and won his third title. The greatest international success was reaching the final of the AFC Cup 2005. There, the footballers were subject to the al-Faisaly club from Jordan . In 2006 and 2007 they advanced again to the semi-finals, where they failed at al Wihdat . After 2005 al Nejmeh SC could retract his next championship title in the seasons 2008/09 and 2013/14. On June 5, 2016 , the club secured the FA Cup for the sixth time after a penalty shoot-out against al Ahed .
