Bassim Abbas Gatea Al-Ogaili ( Arabic باسم عباس كاطع العقيلي, DMG Bāsim ʿAbbās Kāṭiʿ al-ʿUqailī ; * July 1, 1982 in Baghdad ) Abbas Bassim Abbas is an Iraqi former football player who last played for Al Shorta and was Iraqi national player from 2001 to 2012.

Career

The Iraqi football club Al-Talaba recognized the talent of Bassim Abbas early on and promoted the youth player, who developed excellently within four years. He has now established himself as one of the most reliable and best defenders of Iraq . In 2004 he moved to the Iranian club Esteghlal Ahvaz . Within the same season he returned to Al-Talaba, where he played for another year. From 2006 he played at Al Nejmeh , Al-Arabi and Umm-Salal Sport Club and returned to Al-Talaba in 2008. After stops in Turkey at Diyarbakirspor and Konyaspor , Abbas played at Bagdad SC . He has been playing for Al Shorta since 2015 .

Bassim Abbas is a tech-savvy defender who can also move forward and likes to hit crosses to create scoring opportunities, but sometimes he tries to finish himself off.

He played his first games for the Iraqi national soccer team at the U-19 soccer Asian championship in 2000. He also took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , but was eliminated with his team in the quarter-finals. When he won the Asian Football Championship in 2007 , he played a very important role due to his good performance. Although they did not qualify for the 2010 World Cup , he and his team took part in the 2009 Confederations Cup .
